After being collected from your hotel, enjoy a short drive up into the hills to reach the secluded WaiMakare Forest Farm. You will be welcomed to the beautiful homestead garden and embark on the nature walk to discover a range of healing plants and weeds along with other herbs and spices. As you trek up through the agroforestry farming area, you will come across many different cultivars of edible plants that have been collected and planted with the hopes of preserving them for future generations. Continue through the farm and one will soon find themselves amongst the lush green native rainforest. Walking through the tranquil forest it is easy to forget that you are only 15 minutes from the bustling city!
A wide variety of healing plants grow within the forest, along with many other trees and shrubs used for generations by Fijians in day to day life. Information on each of these plants is readily available on the hand held tablets given to guests as they walk through this ‘Living Museum’ with their knowledgeable guide. Out of the forest and back to the homestead, guests are welcomed into the environmentally-friendly Farm House where you will have the opportunity to sample a selection of herbal medicines and try out traditional mat weaving or coconut scraping. Relax and sit down to enjoy a fresh cup of organic juice and snacks made from fresh local produce, before boarding the return transfer back to your hotel.
