ITINERARY*

DAY 1: ALGIERS

Welcome to Algeria! Arrive to the historic city of Algiers and meet your guide and driver. Depending on your arrival time you may want to take a downtown city tour and see the iconic Grand Poste, which was built in 1910. Dinner will be in a local restaurant.

DAY 2: FULL DAY ALGIERS

After breakfast you will have a fully day tour including the UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah region. Here you will find the Citadel and historic mosques and palaces built in Ottoman style architecture. You will visit the Bastion 23, which was built in 1576 and consists of palaces and houses along the coast. In the afternoon visit the Museum of antiquities and/or the Bardo museum. Dinner will be in a local restaurant.

DAY 3: ANNABA / CONSTANTINE

Take an early morning flight to Annaba. Once you arrive you will go directly to the site of Hippo Regius, museum, and the Cathedral of St. Augustine. The archeological site includes the large Roman forum and the famous, ‘Basilica of Peace’ where St. Augustine was bishop in the 5th century. The Catholic Cathedral of St. Augustine, built between 1881 and 1900, is located on top of a hill and offers great views of the historic archaeological site below and the coastline.

Travel to Constantine for night.

DAY 4: CONSTANTINE

After breakfast travel to the Roman site of Tiddis. Your tour guide will point out the Christian basilica and the Roman houses, triumphal arch, the sanctuary of Mithras.
Return back to Constantine for lunch city tour. Located above the Rhumel Gorge, Constantine is one of the most picturesque cities in Algeria. Also visit the museum of Cirta, the suspension bridges, the Kasbah, and Palace of Ahmed Bey.

DAY 5: CONSTANTINE / TIMGAD BATNA

Star the day early and travel south to Timgad. Before you reach Timgad, you will make a brief stop to explore Medracen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is 58 meters in diameter and 19 meters tall.

The UNESCO site of Timgad, begun by Emperor Trajan in AD100. This grand, well preserved Roman city dates back to 100 CE. Here you will see the library, temples, amphitheater, arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas

On your way to Batna visit the large Roman legionary located at Lambaesis.

DAY 6: BATNA / DJEMILA / SETIF

After breakfast head north to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Djemila. Here you will explore both the museum and the historic site. This well preserved Roman town still has the remains of the forum, basilicas, baptisteries, arch of Caracalla, Temple des Septimes, Roman market, and theatre.

After continue to Setif where you will take a guided tour through the Museum of Archaeology and see the grand mosaic called ‘The Triumph of Dionysos’.

DAY 7: SETIF / ALGIERS / GHARDAIA

In the morning you will take a domestic flight back to Algiers and then transfer to Ghardaia, the UNESCO World Heritage M’Zab Valley.

DAY 8: M’ZAB VALLEY

After breakfast you have a guided tour and enjoy the local customs and cultures while visiting the historic cities and sites in the M’Zab valley. Explore important religious monuments and mosques, local markets, and unique natural beauty

DAY 9: GHARDAIA / ALGIERS

Take a domestic flight back to Algiers and enjoy a city tour upon arrival. Dinner will be in a local restaurant.

DAY 10: ALGIERS / TIPAZA / TOMB OF THE CHRISTIAN

Start the day with a trip to the unforgettable UNESCO World Heritage Roman site of Tipaza. Located along the Mediterranean Sea and mountains, Tipaza this Phoenician city became an important Roman city until the 4th century. This site boasts one of the largest Christian basilica’s in North Africa and the Basilica of St Salsa, who was a local martyr in the 4th century. Visit the small museum before traveling back to Algiers.
Return back to Algiers and stop to see the Pyramid-like structure of the the Tombeau de la Chrétienne (royal mausoleum of Mauritania). Dinner will be in a local restaurant.

DAY 11: DEPART ALGIERS

If you have time before your flight, you will take a guided city tour in Algiers. Your guide will take you to the airport for your departure flight.
